What is known
Original oil painting of a riverbank, bought for $150. Acquired in Bilbao,
Spain, at some point within roughly the last 50 years. The artist is unknown, but
the canvas carries a signature in the lower left corner.
Observed from the photograph
A spring landscape worked in heavy impasto with both brush and knife: a stand of
blossoming trees at left over a bank of yellow-green ground, a pale broken sky, and a river
entering at the right, crossed in the middle distance by a low arched bridge. Small figures
in red and blue are scattered along the bank and across the bridge, indicated with single
loaded strokes rather than drawn.
The handling is broadly post-impressionist and decorative in manner — the kind of
Parisian-park subject produced widely across Europe through the mid-to-late 20th century.
Framed in a stepped walnut-and-gilt moulding with a fabric-covered liner.
The signature
Lower left, in dark paint over the green ground — see the signature detail and macro
photographs.
Reading resolved: MORLINK. The owner read the signature as "Morlink"
from the canvas itself. That reading is now corroborated by an independent documented
example — a second painting, catalogued and sold by a different party on another continent,
carrying a signature that matches this one in letterform, cursive style, placement and
medium. The two are the same hand.
Google Lens's OCR had proposed "Markleuk" or "Marlenk," putting an a in position
two. That is now superseded and was wrong.
Two other Morlink works are documented, both in the United States:

Still no biography. "Morlink" returns zero results in RKD, the
Netherlands Institute for Art History database of 265,559 artists. Google Lens returned
"No exact matches found" on the signature macro; Yandex returned only generic results. Both
auction houses that handled Morlink works state plainly that no artist information is
known.
The picture that emerges is a recurring signature on mid-to-late 20th century decorative
paintings circulating through American estate sales, with no documented biography, dates, or
nationality. A working painter who sold through the decorative trade rather than galleries.
